Memorial Biography

Helen Jane Trahan Hoosier was born in Lake Arthur, LA on December 21, 1934. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Dean Trahan and Dorothy Gaspard, and two grandchildren, Shay Hoosier and Jandy Hoosier Salguero, and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Greyson, Hayston, Asher and Holden. Helen is preceded in death by her son, Darryl Hoosier, her parents, Felix and Doralis Trahan, her sister, Evelyn Trahan, and her two brothers, Cheris Trahan and Dale Trahan. Helen’s life was spent as a cheerleader to those around her. She shined a light to brighten everyone she met. She set the example that happiness was to be made, not expected, and Helen took joy in creating that happiness through her hard work, her sense of humor, and her love for life. If this life is a race, Helen certainly won hers. She married at 19 and had her son, Darryl, one year later. She loved to speak French, travel internationally, volunteer in women’s clubs and other charities, and cooked fabulous cajun food. She lived in Lafayette for many years as a business owner. Thanks to her mother and grandmothers’ careful teaching, Helen later became an accomplished seamstress. She sewed beautiful clothing and modeled her own designs for Ladies Clubs and charities. When she moved to the Dallas area in her late 30’s, she modeled at the Dallas fashion markets. She also flew throughout the US as a makeup consultant for a time, before deciding to become a real estate agent. Helen’s tenacity and quick humor fueled her success and loyal customers in Las Colinas and the surrounding areas. She spent many years as an active member of the Four Seasons, enjoying time with her family, meeting friends, playing tennis and other actives to stay active and healthy. When Darryl moved to Irving to be close to Helen, she was overjoyed and they spent his last few years close together before his sudden passing. Helen passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 24, 2021 in Frisco, Tx at the age of 86. Though we grieve for this temporary separation, we know that her most fervent wish was to be reunited with her beloved son, Darryl. Helen’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Lake Arthur Park & Boardwalk, where her ashes will be spread according to her wishes.
